#192: Early July Near June Lake, Horsetail Falls and Northern Mono County

At the beginning of July, Roma, Penny and I went up to June Lake and spent a few days checking out the late-blooming flowers and incredible runoff.

The water coming out of Horsetail Falls was impressive, but the rainbow we saw one morning over Gull Lake was the highlight of the trip.

The conditions in the last few weeks have been perfect for rainbows. We’ve seen them several times in July alone. But this one, popping out from the hill on the northwest end of the lake, was extraordinary.

We weren’t the only ones enjoying the scenery. There were people everywhere taking advantage of the recreation along the June Lake Loop.

This is the first set of these. We’ll post some more from this weekend, including some from our day trip north along the West Walker River, which is as high as it’s been in a while. Check back towards the weekend for that.

Great photos Dave! Thanks so much for allow all of us to “ride shotgun” with you on your photo-adventures! I see a profile of your face in the close up of Horsetail Falls…fifth photo from the bottom…its looking up toward the falls and is located where the lower left section of the falls meets the dark/wet rocks. Keep up the wonderful word in capturing the beauty of the Eastern Sierra. Brian
