Here is the last set of photos from our trip into the White Mountains last month. The first two sets are from Silver Canyon and the Patriarch Grove.
This set is from the descent into Cottonwood Canyon on the east side of The Whites. The clouds started coming in as we descended, and we got a little rain but never enough to slow our progress.
The geography down there looks a lot like the Buttermilk area just above our house in Bishop and there are pretty good roads that go through most of the canyons in the area.
Directly to the east from where we were is Fishlake Valley, and Deep Springs is to the south. Those are the two routes to Las Vegas from the Eastern Sierra.
We traveled south from Crooked Creek to Dead Horse Meadow, and then back up Wyman Canyon to the top of the Whites to begin the last descent back to the Owens Valley. We saw a few deer in Wyman Canyon, and there are some huge Bristlecones towards the top that we got some great shots of just before sunset.
We made it home just before dark, covered in dirt and ready for dinner with Roma.
That’s all we’ve got from this trip. It was an epic adventure that we won’t soon forget. Thanks for coming along!

This is so exciting and these are fabulous shots Dave. It does look like a ride you won’t forget. I see what you mean about the landscape looking a lot like the Buttermilks in those areas. I have not had the chance to get out on the trails you were on but thanks to you and the photos, it’s like I was along for the ride but without being covered in dirt! I can’t wait to explore more of the Eastern Sierra when I get out there again.
Take care everyone!
