Roma, Penny and I just got back from a quick trip north and Highway 395 is beautiful right now.
The colors are at their best right now at some altitudes.
On Conway Summit, north of Mono Lake, the aspens are fantastic. I’m not the only one that saw it, lots of others were out taking photos as well.
We also saw a hole in the clouds above Mono Lake. It looked like the eye of a hurricane. Or maybe it was a hole for the moon to come down into.
We ran into a horse-drawn wagon team at the June Lake Junction that is in the middle of a journey from Colorado to California and back. The outfit is called Wagonteamster and they keep a blog of their travels here. They’ll be on 395 for a little while now, keep an eye out for them and give them some space!
We got back into Bishop to an awesome sunset. The incoming weather system has brought in some good ones the last few nights. Maybe we’ll have some snow in the high country.
Thanks a lot for checking in. I’ll try to find some more colors before it’s done.

Mr. McCoy,
Thank you for your wonderful photos.Just got back from June Lake this afternoon. We live in LA but have a place in June.I came to your site because I was looking up info on Parker and Walker Lakes and stumbled on your site and have been mesmerized for the last 2 hours looking at your photos. It is apparent we share a love for the Eastern Sierra. Mine was born 52 years ago when I came on my first ski trip to your Mountain and I’ve never got over my love affair with the beauty and majesty found in the area. It seemed you wanted to share that with others when you developed Mammoth Mtn.,now you continue with your photos. Thank you so much, you are truly an inspiration. Toni Tramontin
P.S. I know of your very generous heart from a common friend, Melba Allen, mother of Wendy Allen who you help all the way to the Oylmpic
P.S.S The Wagonmasters were just outside of Independence and looking fine. What beautiful horses!
These shots leave me speechless except to say: WOW!!! Beautiful work. What a great experience you had on this outing. Thanks for ‘taking all of us along’ with you. I sure do appreciate the fun.
