Before your eyes at all, they realized a great performance. As you say, it’s a chance to see them on your way !!!
I note that some have put their jewellery, earring and necklace. These pictures are superb. The fauna of the Eastern Sierra is surprising. :-)

That’s great you ran into them too. It definitely takes a little bit of luck.
My favorite lens is the 28-300, that’s what I use on almost everything. We also had a 500mm out there, but the 28-300 was enough for most of these.

What lens did you use?

I went up/down Silver about a week after your original post. I was hoping to catch a glimpse too. I came down around the corner in the tight narrows and encountered the whole herd! I got some nice group shots, but the 200mm just couldn’t get beautiful tight shot you captured. Nicely done!
