Here are some images from a Rhino trip we did just after Christmas into the Buttermilks.
As we said in last week’s post about Christmas week, we couldn’t even get up here last year at this time. The snow was falling and skiers were having a great time. It’s a different story this year. It was in the 70s up at the Buttermilk climbing area and there were a lot of climbers taking advantage of it. We made some interesting pictures of them climbing around on the massive boulders up there.
From there we continued up towards the Buttermilk waterfall and made some shots of the rock owl that we visit so often. Then we decided to come home around the north side of the Buttermilks to look for deer. When we got down a little lower, we saw several herds of deer, including some bucks.
We also ran into a few golden eagles in that area. We saw them from about a mile away, and creeped up as best we could. One of them took off when we got near, but we were able to get close enough to get a good look. We also saw another lower in the valley, on the way home. They’re tough to find, so we felt pretty lucky.
That’s all for the Christmas week Rhino trips. We’ll have a few more from another day at the motocross track soon so look out of that.
